With West Ham United struggling to stay out of the relegation zone, it was just a matter of time before coach Slaven Bilic was replaced. Real Sociedad and ex-Manchester United boss, David Moyes, has stepped in to stem what is supposed to be a rot.The Hammers’ performance of late have been mixed, crashing to massive defeats of 0-3 and 1-4 to Brighton and Liverpool respectively but eking out a well-fought draw of 2-2 against Crystal Palace after being two goals down. The 25th October win over Tottenham Hotspur in the a EFL Cup clash at the Wembley signalled a recovery of sorts for the Hammers which is what led many to believe that the Bilic sacking could have been a bit premature.
West Ham now head towards Watford to play a side low on confidence. Marco Silva’s Hornets who were placed at an enviable 4th spot on the table till mid-October have seen their fortunes turn dramatically downwards since then, crashing to as many as three Premier league defeats on the trot and a EFL Cup loss to Bristol City to boot. While the losses to Chelsea and Stoke City saw Watford go down fighting, those to Everton and Bristol in the following games were damaging to the side’s morale.
In Javier Hernandez, Andre Ayew, Mark Arnautovic and Andy Carroll, West Ham have the kind of attack that can cause immense amount of problems to a Watford defense that has taken in as many as 11 goals from their last 4 outings. To compound worries for the home side when they prepare to receive West Ham on Sunday could be the absence of Heurelho Gomes, the side’s Brazilian goalie whose superlative performance has been responsible for Watford’s present position in the Top half of the Premier League table. Moreover, Watford’s record at home at Vicarage Road this season has been dismal with just a solitary win from six games including a 0-6 crushing by Manchester City.
The Hammers are yet to register a win from they away games this season and the one at Vicarage Road on November 19th throws up an opportunity for them to set the records straight.
Of the 4 times these two have met since 2015, Watford have won twice and the Hammers just once (which was in April 2016).Bookmakers have gone by Watford’s superior history and West Ham’s poor record on the road in wagering for a win for the hosts on Sunday.
