West Ham v Tottenham – 31st January 2015

With Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Southampton all playing at home this weekend, it will be tough to find competitive Premier League odds from your usual sports betting site. Thankfully, though, Tottenham are playing against West Brom with a 3pm kick-off this Saturday (31 January).

In their last away outing, Tottenham slumped to a frustrating 2-1 defeat in a London derby against Crystal Palace. Despite Crystal Palace receiving fresh motivation from new manager Alan Pardew, not many football fans expected Spurs to struggle so badly.

Ahead of this fixture, Spurs are placed sixth in the league based on away form. From ten games, they have won five, drawn twice, and lost three times to claim 17 points. Meanwhile, West Brom have struggled at home this season. Currently, the Baggies are 15th based on home form, taking only 12 points from 11 games.

Over December and January, Spurs finally displayed consistent form. As such, they enter this weekend holding sixth place in the table, positioned just two points behind Arsenal and three behind Man Utd. Mauricio Pochettino will not accept anything less than a victory from what is a winnable game for Spurs.

Expectations

Against teams in the lower half of the table, the Spurs defence generally holds up pretty well. And the same can be expected for this game, as West Brom have only scored 14 goals in 11 home league games.

Outside of Saido Berahino, the baggies do not score enough goals, and even his form has been quite patchy. From 1 November until the end of 2014, the promising young striker did not score once in the league.

In contrast, Spurs’ young striker Harry Kane has been anything but patchy, netting eight league goals in just 12 starts. With Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor out of favour for the important games, Kane is the clear attacking threat for spurs.
