Tottenham v West Ham – 22nd February 2015

A London derby is the reward for the fans who tune into the early game on Sunday. Kicking off at noon, this will be a hotly contested affair at White Hart Lane. In the past six meetings, each side has managed to win three times.

Back in August, Spurs beat West Ham 1-0 away from home, so this time the Hammers will be out to even the score. Spurs will also be eager to perform after losing 3-2 to Liverpool in their last Premier League outing.

As for West Ham’s last league game, they managed to earn an excellent point away at Southampton. Oh, and that point looks even better when you consider that goalkeeper Adrián was sent off in the 61st minute.

However, Adrián will be available for this match after his red card was overturned following an appeal. But while Adrián will be able to play, West Ham have another of key absentees, including Andy Carroll, Morgan Amalfitano, James Collins, and impressive centre-back Winston Reid.

Expectations

Not having the injured Winston Reid will make the Hammers more vulnerable against Spurs, who will be able to attack with the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Nacer Chadli, and Érik Lamela. Adrián will have a busy Sunday afternoon even if just a couple from that quartet are on form.

In contrast to West Ham, Spurs have no injuries to report ahead of this fixture. That will give manager Mauricio Pochettino an opportunity to pick his first-choice 11. As a result, it should make it easier for them to come up with a strategy to curb the attacking prospects of West Ham.

For this game, manager Sam Allardyce will depend on Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia as his attacking options. However, Sakho has proven much more effective, scoring seven goals in the league compared to Valencia’s three.

Tottenham should be able to take advantage of West Ham’s player absences and secure a win in this game. Notably, though, there’s not likely to be a wealth of goals.
