Match Preview & Tips: France vs Iceland [Quarter-finals Euro 2016]

The hosts have made it to the quarter-finals of the European championship after beating Boys in Green Ireland in the round of 16. Didier Deschamps will hopefully not make a mistake of underestimating the Iceland like Roy Hodgson’s England did.

Iceland, a small nation, with a total population of around 330,000 ousted the mighty English from the competition. Iceland’s 2 – 1 victory over the 1966 World champions was watched by an estimated 99.8 percent of the Icelandic population. Iceland supporters in France have been incredible on all the match days so far and we can expect a great atmosphere in the stadium in Saint Denis from both sets of fans on July 3rd.

Iceland are the ultimate underdogs of the tournament and it would be quite similar to Leicester’s fairytale if they beat all odds and clinch the European Cup.

France have an impeccable record against the Icelandic national team. Les Bleus have won 11 and drawn four of their 15 matches against the European minnows. France’s last victory over Iceland came in an international friendly in May 2012.

Antoine Greizmann has netted three goals in the tournament so far and he is among the top scorers at Euro 2016 so far. It won’t be a big surprise if the Atletico Madrid picks up the Golden Boot at the end of the tournament, as he has been in sensational goal scoring form throughout the season.

France are the undoubted favourites to grab a win on Sunday in Saint Denis. The winner of this last quarter-final fixture will meet the winner between the summit clash between Italy and Germany on Saturday.

Two bets look good value in this fixture. I can see Iceland holding France back, but not stopping them so Draw/France win looks attractive at 4.2 @ Paddypower. I also have a sneaky suspicion that Iceland might find the net off one of their set pieces so BTTS YES looks overpriced at 2.5 William Hill.

Both Teams to Score: YES, Best Odds 2.5 @ William Hill
Half Time/Full Time, Draw/France, Best Odds 4.2 @ Paddypower
