Liverpool will play host to Premier League’s title hopefuls Tottenham on April 2nd. This late kick-off at Anfield on Saturday can potentially end the season for either of these sides.
Liverpool will hope to bounce back from the 3 – 2 defeat against Ronald Koeman’s Southampton last week. The Reds were leading 2 – 0 at the half-time at St. Mary’s but the Saints made a comeback and scored three goals in the last half-hour. Jurgen Klopp’s men are seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City but they have a game-in-hand. The Merseyside giants can’t afford to drop more points if they want to secure the fourth spot in the league this season.
Tottenham picked up a 3 – 0 victory over Bournemouth in the last game week. Spurs are keeping up with the league leaders Leicester City but the gap between the two title challengers is five points and thus a slip-up will cost North Londoners an opportunity to lift their first league title since 1961.
This fixture is equally important to both these sides. When these two sides met in the first half of the season, the winner remained undetermined. The match at White Hart Lane in October 2015 ended 0 – 0. But in the 2014/2015 Premier League campaign, Liverpool did the double over Mauricio Pochettino’s team. However, Spurs finished above Liverpool in the Premier League table and they will almost certainly finish above them this season too.
Tottenham’s recent league form is second to none. Spurs have won four and drawn one of their last six Premier League games. Liverpool, on the other hand, have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six matches.
Despite their impressive run throughout the season, Spurs are not the favourites for this clash. It will be interesting to see which team comes out on top when the players return from international duty.
I think this is a tough one to be call, but like Leicester often are, Tottenham are being underestimated in this fixture they have only lost once in the last 10 premier league games, and I fancy with what’s at stake they will at the very least get a point in this game. So let’s go for the win, but have the insurance of a refund if they draw.
