Leicester City are top of the Premier League and have scored a staggering 28 goals in only 13 games. That is an outcome that nobody could have foreseen when Claudio Ranieri was announced as the new manager of the Foxes. For the next few weeks, it will be fascinating to discover if Leicester can continue to defy convention.
This is a much more dangerous Leicester side than the one that beat Man Utd 5-3 at the King Power Stadium last season. Man Utd had raced out to an early lead before being embarrassed by their newly promoted counterparts. Leicester are in an excellent position to once again spring a surprise on Man Utd and retain the top spot for another week.
In reality, though, it will be a mammoth challenge. Leicester have exceeded their potential thanks to the performances of striker Jamie Vardy, who has equalled Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record of scoring in 10-straight games, and the creative presence of Riyad Mahrez, who once again pulled the strings from midfield, opening up countless chances in beating Newcastle 3-0.
Surprisingly, this is going to be an encounter between the best attack in the league versus the best defence in the league. Thus far, Man Utd have conceded a mere nine goals in 13 games. The 19-goal tally from their attack is not quite so impressive, but the defence has made up for a poor scoring return. Chris Smalling and David De Gea have been the undisputed stars at the back.
Man Utd get to play against a defence that has conceded an astonishing 20 goals in 13 games, a tally that does not typically equate to table-topping success. So long as Man Utd can shut down Mahrez and cut off Vardy’s supply line, they can find a way to score past a defence that is prone to conceding. Memphis Depay had a promising first game up front against Watford last Saturday.

Man Utd will feel compelled to right the wrong of their 5-3 defeat last season. Another game leading the line will help Depay to play even better up front.
