Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig Free Tips & Match Preview

For the Red Bull club that was founded in as recently as 2009, RB Leipzig’s maiden entry into the Bundesliga has been nothing short of sensational. This 7-year club has shaken the foundations of traditional German domestic soccer and now stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of giants Bayer Munich. Leipzig are just 3 points behind Table toppers Bayern and are a shocking 11 points ahead of another German powerhouse, Borussia Dortmund, who are currently on the 4th spot. It will be to Dortmund where RB Leipzig will be making a trip on February 4 for an exciting Bundesliga clash.

Although at a distant 4th spot, Dortmund have shown a penchant for getting goals and have a tally of 38 from their 18 games which is only 4 less than Bayern’s 42. The bulk of Dortmund’s goals have come from 27-year old French-Gabonese striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who with his 16 goals is the top scorer of the current season, ahead of even Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski’s 14. Dortmund’s attack will be bolstered by the return of their star midfielder, the German international, Marco Reus. Reus has been beset by intermittent injuries and has featured in just 6 Bundesliga outings for his club in the 2016-17 season. His lone goal against Mainz last weekend was the only saving grace in a disappointing 1-1 draw for Dortmund. Along with Aubameyang, Reus will be expected to take the responsibility of putting pressure on the Leipzig defense, what with the side’s other striker, Ousmane Dembele, proving virtually ineffective in most of his 16 outings so far.

Unlike Dortmund’s over-dependence on one player for getting goals, Leipzig have quite a few upfront who have shared in the spoils. Timo Werner with 11 goals assisted by Emil Forsberg, Marcel Sabitzer and Naby Keita all with five goals each have contributed to the Leipzig score-card. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have been able to score prolifically even in away games, getting 17 of their 36 goals on the road. But after a heady November when they topped the tables, Leipzig seemed to have lost the momentum a little, losing their two only games of the season in the six outings after that, one of them being a shocking 0-1 loss to relegation candidate, FC Ingolstadt, in December.

Thomas Tuchel’s Dortmund is yet to lose a Bundesliga match at home having won 5 and drawn 3 so far and may make the proceedings really tough for the visitors, especially with the extremely vociferous support of the home fans at the Signal Iduna. Borussia Dortmund’s last meeting with RB Leipzig had ended in a 0-1 loss, but the Black and Yellows look poised to reverse that result come Saturday night. A 2-1 win in favour of the hosts could be a possibility.
